“The caliber of craftsmanship made the selection process both challenging and a true celebration of talent,” said Trevor Underwood, Vice President of Marketing at DECRA Metal Roofing. “The quality showcased in each and every entry this year was unbelievable. A new bar has been set for top-tier workmanship in stone-coated metal roofing.”

What is the DECRA Metal Roofing Project of the Year?

The rules for the competition are straightforward: contractors from around the nation are asked to submit photos of their best DECRA Metal Roofing project. Next, an internal team from DECRA thoroughly reviews and scores each entry based on several criteria, including craftsmanship, complexity, and the uniqueness of the project. The top six entries are then shared on DECRA’s social media accounts for the public to vote for their favorite.

This year’s winner, Nash Construction out of Spring, TX, officially joins the esteemed company of previous Project of the Year winners, including:

About the 2023 Project of the Year Winner: Nash Construction

Nash Construction has more than 16 years of experience in the roofing industry, and this crew is all about metal. Nash Construction specializes in all types of metal roofing as well as other metal projects. Matt Nash, owner of Nash Construction, was introduced to DECRA Metal Roofing in 2010. “Since becoming aware of DECRA, I have strived to use DECRA products due to its many benefits. It’s one of the best metal roofing systems I’ve ever installed,” said Matt.

The Story Behind This Year’s Award-Winning Project

“The existing concrete tile roof was leaking, resulting in mold and water damage to the decking. They wanted to replace the roof with the same concrete tile, but when I let them know the extent of work that would be involved and the equipment that was required, they realized it would wreak havoc on their yard and destroy much of their landscaping. So I introduced them to DECRA Metal Roofing–specifically, DECRA Villa Tile in Rustico Clay,” explained Matt.

“They were blown away by the look of DECRA Villa Tile and the many benefits that stone-coated metal roofing had to offer compared to concrete tile. They also loved that DECRA was a much more economical choice. During the re-deck, we used 3/4” Techshield plywood, and the dry-in process consisted of an ice and water shield for the underlayment, which endured during several rain storms that came through during the installation process. We also installed a 6” custom copper metallic gutter system.”

The homeowners followed Matt’s recommendations and went with DECRA Metal Roofing for its appearance, durability, simplicity of installation and dramatic reduction in weight compared to concrete tile

Stone-coated metal roofing is one of the most durable and long-lasting roofing materials, but many are surprised to learn that it's also one of the lightest roofing materials.

Metal Roofing: Weighs up to 1.6 pounds per sq. ft.
Concrete Tiles: Weighs up to 6 -11 pounds per sq. ft.

A lightweight roofing material is important as it reduces the stress on a building's structure. This advantage is crucial for areas prone to natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, and severe storms. It strengthens the roof deck without adding unnecessary weight to make the building less top-heavy and more resistant to lateral forces from wind or seismic activity.

In addition to the industrial-strength durability of metal roofing–which can withstand hail, hurricane-force winds, fire, and nearly anything Mother Nature has to offer–DECRA Villa Tile provided one additional, and very important, benefit to the homeowners…

“They wanted a roof that was a step above their neighbor's roof,” said Matt. “The homeowners were shocked by how much the DECRA roof looked like their original concrete tile–but even better. Very happy customers!”
